International Mind Speech: Inspiring Global Perspectives at Xiaoshi High School

Xiaoshi High School recently hosted a captivating international perspective lecture, providing students with an insightful and inspiring learning experience. During this remarkable event, Secretary Wang Xianming, together with Professor Wu and Professor Martin, delivered thought-provoking speeches on the advancements in the digital era, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and intelligence augmentation (IA).

 

In his opening address, Secretary Wang emphasized the significance of cultivating an international mindset and warmly welcomed Professors Wu and Martin. Subsequently, Professor Wu eloquently introduced the concepts of AI and IA. He explained that AI refers to machines' ability to think and contemplate, effectively substituting human brain functions. On the other hand, IA aims to enhance and expand human intelligence through the assistance of machines, rather than replacing human capabilities. Professor Wu further emphasized the interconnection and contradiction between AI and IA, illustrating the paradoxical nature of the same intelligence revolution that can both replace and augment human abilities, ultimately making individuals smarter.

 

Following that, Professor Martin delivered an engaging and humorous presentation on the history of marketing, with a particular focus on subliminal advertising. He explained that subliminal advertising is a technique used in marketing to convey unconscious messages to audiences, arousing desires or eliciting specific reactions. This advertising approach seeks to influence individuals' subconscious thoughts and behaviors by employing brief, ambiguous, and imperceptible stimuli such as images, sounds, or words, rather than capturing attention through conscious awareness.

 

This lecture provided students with a rare opportunity to engage with renowned international professors, broadening their knowledge and stimulating their critical thinking and innovative abilities. Students gained a deeper understanding of the transformative nature of the digital era, realizing the impact of AI and IA on society and individuals. Additionally, Professor Martin's insights into the history of marketing and subliminal advertising allowed students to develop a new understanding of the psychological influences within marketing and gain a clearer awareness of future challenges, including increased screen time, blurred boundaries between virtual and real worlds, gamified online environments, protection of personal information and privacy, as well as compliance with legal regulations.
