第一期【师说新语】国际教育的领航员：Mr. Wessels

国际中心【师说新语】专辑的第一期邀请到了中心校长Mr. Wessels，Mr. Wessels就采访志愿者27IB楼均成同学提出的问题逐一回答

Q1：What inspired you to become a teacher, and how did you journey lead you to teaching at the International Centre?

       下午好，Wessels先生。是什么激励您成为一名教师，又是如何走上在国际中心教书的道路的？

A ：Becoming a teacher has been in my family. I come from a lineage of teachers, but initially, I pursued science and law. However, I found my true calling in education, and it felt like a natural fit. I started teaching in South Africa and eventually made my way to China through an agent, where I found a welcoming environment at Xiaoshi.

         成为教师对我来说是家族传统。我的祖辈中有很多教师，但我最初学习了科学和法律。然而，我最终在教育领域找到了我真正的使命，这对我来说就像是自然而然的事情。我最初在南非开始教书，后来有来到了中国，在Xiaoshi找到了家的感觉。

Q2：Throughout your career, is there an interesting story that left a deep impression on you?

       在您的职业生涯中，有没有一个让您印象深刻的有趣故事？

A ：The influence of my uncle, also a teacher, had a profound impact on me. He taught me the significant role a teacher can play in a student's life. This realization motivates me to be mindful of the influence I can have on my students every day.

       我的叔叔，也是一位教师，他对我产生了深远的影响。他教会了我一个教师可以在学生生活中扮演的重要角色。这种认识激励我每天都意识到我可能对学生产生的影响。

Q3：I understand you're a biology teacher. What discoveries in biology do you find most exciting?

       我了解到您是一位生物老师。您觉得生物学中哪些发现最令人兴奋？

A ：Currently, the most exciting developments are in molecular biology, particularly gene editing with CRISPR-Cas9 technology. Additionally, AI software is being used to predict protein structures and functions, which is revolutionary. Neuroscience is also advancing our understanding of the brain, which will dramatically change the future. These advancements are making biology an incredibly interesting field.

       目前，分子生物学中最让人兴奋的发展是基因编辑，特别是CRISPR-Cas9技术。此外，人工智能软件被用来预测蛋白质的结构和功能，这是革命性的。神经科学也在推进我们对大脑的理解，这将极大地改变未来。这些进步使得生物学成为一个非常有趣的领域。

Q4：You've mentioned complex concepts. Can you give advice to students who find biology challenging or uninteresting?

       您提到了一些复杂的概念。对于那些觉得生物学具有挑战性或不感兴趣的学生，您有什么建议？

A ：My advice is to be curious. Biology encompasses many fields, and finding your interest can make it engaging. Being interested in the world around you is key to staying motivated in any subject.

        我的建议是保持好奇心。生物学包含许多领域，找到您感兴趣的领域可以使它变得有趣。对周围世界保持兴趣是保持任何学科学习动力的关键。

Q5：Let's change the subject. What are your hobbies, and what kind of person are you like when you're away from school?

       让我们换个话题。您有什么爱好？您在学校之外是什么样的人？

A ：I have a lot of energy and am always on the move. I run, cycle, and swim regularly. I also enjoy reading, especially literature related to education, to keep up with the latest developments in the field.

         我精力旺盛，总是闲不下来。我经常跑步、骑自行车和游泳。我也喜欢阅读，尤其是与教育相关的文献，以跟上该领域最新的发展。

Q6：For our final question, do you have any words you'd like to say to the students of the International Centre?

       作为我们今天最后一个问题，您有什么话想对国际中心的学生说吗？

A ：My message is to embrace the IB philosophy of being life-long learners. Stay curious about the world and use your time in school to discover who you are. Authenticity and self-awareness are crucial for a fulfilling life.

       我的主要信息是拥抱IB哲学，成为终身学习者。对世界保持好奇心，并利用在学校的时间发现自己是谁。自我认知和真实性对于一个充实的生活是至关重要。
