Art Trip to Shanghai

Students from Xiaoshi International IB Centre experience

the power of Art in The Power Station Gallery in Shanghai!

The visit to Shanghai by Visual Arts students at the Xiaoshi international IB Centre on Saturday 26th December 2015 was definitely a day to remember.

The Visual Arts students enjoyed a taste of Fine Art and curatorship that stretched from drawing and painting that used traditional materials and techniques, up to contemporary mixed media, sculpture, video, installation work and what is regarded as the highest form of Art, architecture

With such a diverse range of stimuli, each student was able to make surprising linkages with their own work and the primary research that they conducted will naturally stand them in good stead for their up and coming Exhibition in March and a written Comparative Study.

The Power Station of Art is the first state-run contemporary art museum in Shanghai and occupies a disused power station on the banks of the Huangpu River where it remains a prominent landmark.  Students enjoyed a diverse collection of work organised by curators Yao Mengxi, Zhang Hanlu, Chen Chenchen, Lin Shuzhuan, Zhang Mo, Yuan Wenshan in the 'Emerging Curators Programme' plus a solo exhibition of architectural designs by Kazunari Sakamoto, Japanese architect.

All pupils and staff thoroughly enjoyed the experience and each student took back photographic records of their experiences along with their memories.
